Saint John of San Francisco Orthodox Monastery
Lay to rest your loved ones in the prayerful and beautiful surroundings of Saint John of San Francisco Monastery
Traditionally, Orthodox Christians have often wanted their loved ones to be laid to rest at a monastery so that they will be commemorated whenever the Divine Liturgy is celebrated. The faithful find much consolation knowing that these souls are in the prayerful care of the monks of the monastery.

After 5 years we have been able to carefully assess our needs. Our Geronda, after consulting with some architects, found them to be in agreement with his intuitions that it would be best to construct a traditional monastic enclosure for 26 monks , which should give us adequate room for growth for the future, at a separate location, and to make the present buildings a combination of guest reception areas, guest rooms including special rooms for visiting hierarchs, clergy, and monastics, a few cells for monks, a library, and offices.

We are slowly finishing the catholicon (monastery’s main church). We plan to add a monastic inner narthex (Liti) and an outer narthex to the catholicon to facilitate the monastic order of services as well as provide an appropriate space for female pilgrims and children. Use the form below to contact us about how you can contribute towards the church iconography project.
